The Latin America Meetup was held within the facilities of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education Campus State of Mexico. The event was attended by Latin American teams!
- Event Date: July 13th, 2018
- iGEM Representative: Ricardo Camilo Chavez, iGEM Ambassador to Latin America
Last Friday, July 13th, the Latin America Meetup was held within the facilities of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education Campus State of Mexico. The event was attended by Latin American teams, including Brazil (USP-Brazil, USP-EEL-Brazil), Chile (UChile_Biotec), Ecuador, as well as the Mexican Teams (Tec-Chihuahua, Tec-Monterrey, TecCEM, TecMonterrey_GDL). Our iGEM Ambassador Ricardo was able to attend and share more about the new programs that will be showcased throughout the year for the iGEM Community platform.
Throughout the event, representatives of each team had the opportunity to present their projects and talk about what they are planning for this year's Giant Jamboree. Their respective advisors and guests provided the team's feedback with their valuable feedback, so that the students could take those into consideration and improve their projects.
At the end of the event, teams were able to reflect on the next steps of their projects and evaluate the alternatives to be implemented. The teams admitted that the feedback provided by the specialist guests and advisors served as a key point to consider while going through the proper development of their projects. They agreed on taking into account not just the technical aspects of their projects, but the social implications and promises as well.

If you are interested in sharing your experience with fellow iGEMers, please be sure to check our Mentorship Program. You could provide crucial support for first timers and make their experience in the competition even better.
