Demystifying the Publication Process

About

The project aims to create a tutorial video series, documenting the steps of the paper publishing process, covering brainstorming to submission. The outcome comprises a comprehensive handbook designed to assist students in navigating the realms of paper publishing.

The guide covers essential aspects such as accessing valuable paper publishing resources, mastering effective writing techniques, structuring your paper, and ultimately achieving the milestone of securing your first publication. We will also conduct interviews engaging researchers, and targeted support for iGEM teams through video series, ensuring their projects get the recognition they deserve.

Events for high school students will explore an introduction to research tools like Zotero, Google Scholar, sci-hub.

Description

How is the project going to happen?

We will primarily focus on creating content and resources, including both a handbook and video series that can be uploaded to the iGEM video universe. It will not require background knowledge, as the main goal is to educate people on the entire publication process from the beginning. Therefore, the topic of the published article is not important. Although collaboration is welcome, the team will primarily add content. Additionally, the video series will include interviews with iGEM alumni who have already published their projects.

What should people expect from the project? Will they learn something new?

We want to create videos that teach how to collect data, write research articles, and submit them for publication. In addition, we will create a complementary handbook on the publication process to guide iGEM teams in publishing their projects. Through this project, iGEM teams will learn how to submit research articles and gain a better understanding of the publication process.
