About
The Building Inclusive Tech is a project for local educational empowerment, where high school students in select areas are invited to synthetic biology related talks, workshops with presentations of past iGEM projects and getting the opportunity to create their own final iGEM-like projects.
Description
The project aims to create a network of iGEM alumni who can participate in these highschool workshops and talks as attendees and mentors. These events were primarily geared towards students from under-represented communities, LGBTQIA+ and female students.
In 2022, we reached out to a larger audience in our community, targeting high school students to raise interest in STEM fields, share on women representation in science and fostering their confidence to pursue in the science fields. We have developed a highschool workshop kit to help highschool students through STEM career exploration, introduce women role models in STEM, provide a chance for them to discuss and interact with us to further understand STEM majors for their future university path, or learn how their iGEM project can contribute to women inclusivity and work towards the inclusivity award in the iGEM Competition.
