The iGEM Ambassador for Latin America, Xavier Alexandro Rios Salinas, spoke at the 2nd International Interdisciplinary Congress of Medicine organized by the Inteligencia-EDUCA University at Veracruz, Mexico.

The event invited speakers from Bolivia, EEUU, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, EL Salvador and Panama; on the topic of “Health from Pediatrics to Geriatrics”.

Xavier's talk was on “Present and Future of Precision Medicine & iGEM as an Opportunity for Innovation” which emphasized the role of synthetic biology for the development of precision medicine as a new paradigm in continuation of evidence-based medicine. Special focus on the role of iGEM as a catalytic platform for innovation was explained, all in context with the recent inclusion of Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Fashion & Cosmetics as Villages in the iGEM Competition.
