In celebration of the 400th anniversary of San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca University, the iGEM community engaged with students from the School of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry through an insightful visit.

  • Event Date: November 9th, 2024
  • iGEM Representative: Xavier Alexandro Rios Salinas, iGEM Ambassador to Latin America

The event aimed to introduce iGEM and its opportunities in synthetic biology, fostering strong interest among students in participating in future iGEM competitions. San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca University has a rich history with iGEM, having been part of the first Bolivian team three years ago. However, the university had not participated in the most recent cycle. This visit was crucial in reintroducing iGEM to a new generation of students and sparking their enthusiasm for innovation in biotechnology.

The event also served as a platform to discuss iGEM Community projects, generating significant interest among both medical and biochemistry students. The outcomes of this visit were promising, with plans underway to form a new iGEM team at the university. Several students expressed interest in joining the former iGEM Bolivia team, while others eagerly anticipated participating in the upcoming iGEM competition.

Additionally, virtual outreach efforts proved successful. A virtual event hosted by the Scientific Society of Medicine Students in Sucre garnered over 550 views, demonstrating strong engagement from the broader medical community in Bolivia.
