The Mid-Atlantic Meetup brought together an enthusiastic gathering of iGEM 2023 teams - William & Mary, University of Maryland, East Coast Bio Crew, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State, and the University of Virginia.
- Event Date: August 11th-12th, 2023
- iGEM Representative: Heyuan "Michael" Ni, iGEM Ambassador to North America
The picturesque setting of Charlottesville on the UVA campus provided the backdrop for this event, where these teams convened to showcase and elaborate on their innovative projects and the strides they have taken so far.
Additionally, the event marked a significant milestone, as attendees celebrated the momentous 20th-year anniversary of iGEM, reflecting on the iGEM's two decades of fostering cutting-edge synthetic biology advancements with early-career scientists.

Michael delivered a successful interactive presentation delving into the intricate facets of the iGEM competition, the vibrant iGEM Community, and the various branches of iGEM, including the burgeoning iGEM startups.
Approximately 90% of the participants were first-time iGEM participants. Following his presentation, he engaged in conversations with individuals who were captivated by the wealth of opportunities the iGEM community offers beyond their current involvement this year. Prospective iGEM participants he spoke with, expressed their aspirations to either form or join iGEM teams in the upcoming year.
