The Conference was organized by the Scientific Society of San Marcos University in Lima, Peru.
- Event Date: September 14th, 2024
- iGEM Representative: Xavier Alexandro Rios Salinas, iGEM Ambassador to Latin America
The academic event brought together experts, researchers, and students to explore the exciting potential of synthetic biology in medicine, both in Latin America and globally. Discussions ranged from cutting-edge research in genetic engineering to innovative applications that could transform healthcare in the region.
Having new iGEM teams from such a prestigious university not only boosts iGEM’s presence in Latin America but also solidifies its impact in the Andean region. The potential for cross-collaboration with other universities and research centers in Peru is truly exciting, together with growing interest in synthetic biology in the region.

The event marks a promising step toward building a strong synthetic biology community in the region, and we're eager to see what the future holds as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible at the intersection of biology and medicine.
