Xavier delivered a talk, "Beyond the Lab, iGEM and the Application of Synthetic Biology in the Real World" at the Barbara McClintock Institute of Genetics in Lima, Peru on December 6, 2024.

Xavier’s talk was attended by over 100 students and faculty members from the nations of Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Bolivia, highlighting the interest in participating in the iGEM Competition across Latin America. The talk introduced the iGEM Competition to them as an international platform empowering students and professionals to innovate in synthetic biology, addressing real-world global challenges. It emphasized how iGEM projects extend beyond the laboratory, applying advanced science to critical areas such as health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

Xavier also emphasized the importance of collaboration and open science, highlighting the transformative impact of synthetic biology when different perspectives come together.
