iGEM teams from Australia and New Zealand came together for a regional virtual meetup
- Event Date: July 29th, 2024
- iGEM Representative: Anna Donnan, iGEM Ambassador to Asia & Oceania
The event, hosted via Zoom, provided an opportunity for teams to present updates on their projects, share challenges, and discuss future steps in preparation for the 2024 iGEM Grand Jamboree. The teams in attendance included representatives from ANU, Sydney University, Macquarie University, and the University of Canterbury.
The session emphasized collaboration, with participants encouraged to seek opportunities to support each other’s work and explore potential synergies between projects. Additionally, the meetup introduced teams to Synthetic Biology Australasia (SBA) and SynBioNZ, highlighting how these organizations can provide ongoing support and resources for their projects.
The meetup successfully achieved its primary objectives of fostering collaboration, facilitating project updates, and providing a platform for teams to connect.

Anna Donnan, iGEM Ambassador to Asia & Oceania
“Teams presented their iGEM projects, sharing insights into their current progress and challenges. A key outcome of the session was the initiation of a collaboration between two of the teams!”
