Founder in Residence, Wastewater Treatment
Marble, Paris, France
Founder in Residence, Wastewater Treatment
- Marble
- Paris, France
- The Opportunity We aim to create a company which can maximise both the climate impact and economic value of wastewater treatment plants — at the largest scale possible. Examples of opportunities we are considering: Energy recovery: increasing biogas yields from wastewater (with improved AD or another process) could slash methane emissions while unlocking massive clean energy resources. Alternately, heat, hydrogen, or syngas could be recovered. Sludge utilisation: new valorisation routes for sewage sludge could significantly reduce emissions and operational costs. Examples: construction materials, biochar, etc. Carbon removal: various CDR methods could be deployed as retrofits to wastewater treatment plants, using alkalinity, algae, biogenic CO2 capture, etc. Advanced water treatment: technologies to maximise water recycling and process novel contaminants, tailored solutions for industrial use cases, etc. Other ideas: this is a big problem: surprise us! We are looking for an entrepreneurial engineer with deep technical expertise (e.g. PhD level or equivalent work experience) to transform the wastewater sector with Marble. Examples of relevant backgrounds: Civil engineer / environmental engineer, with direct industry experience in designing and deploying / operating wastewater treatment systems. OR Chemical / ecological / biological engineer with applied R&D experience to elucidate chemical and biological dynamics in wastewater treatment processes. Examples: Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR), nanotubes, others. OR Industry experience in wastewater treatment, water management, or related We encourage you to apply even if you don’t feel you meet all requirements. Above all, we value intelligence, creativity and Founder Potential.

Strain Engineering Lead
- General Biological
- New Haven, USA
- General Biological (GB) is a pioneering industrial chemical and hardware manufacturing company developing the next generation of sustainable, low-cost biomanufacturing technologies. Our mission is to establish a new era of chemical products and physical materials derived from renewable carbohydrates rather than fossil fuels. Central to our approach is vertical integration - positioning ourselves at the intersection of biotechnology, chemistry, and integrated hardware-software engineering to rapidly scale our innovative technology stack. The GB platform harnesses a non-model organism with remarkable metabolic flexibility and low sterility requirements, allowing us to truly industrialize biotech. By building custom bioreactor hardware and downstream operations, we fully leverage these properties to dramatically reduce capital and operating costs while accelerating implementation. GB is assembling our founding team to join us in building a generational company that will transform scalable bioproduction practices for modern heavy industry. For more, see generalbiological.com We are seeking an exceptional Strain Engineering Lead to drive the development of our non-model bioproduction platform. Your primary responsibilities in this role will revolve around engineering our microbial production host to produce targeted specialty and commodity chemicals. You will lead a team of scientists and work alongside engineers to develop and optimize protocols for iterative strain engineering, evaluation, and deployment. The ideal candidate will help drive GB's success by engineering metabolic pathways to hit target production metrics for molecules of interest at pilot scale using various alternative feedstocks. This role involves hands-on work, protocol development, and problem-solving - requiring a first principles mindset and willingness to take calculated risks.
