The Nordic iGEM Conference (NiC) 2024, hosted by the Aboa Turku ry association, was a weekend event gathering iGEM teams from the Nordic and Baltic regions and students from across Finland at the Aurum building; Åbo Akademi University.
- Event Date: July 26th-28th, 2024
- iGEM Representative: Mariel Turkia, iGEM Ambassador to Europe
The conference hosted over 110 participants from 5 countries, with presenters, judges, a competition for the Golden Pipette award, a dinner party, and other fun activities. The goal of the conference was to strengthen the bond between the Nordic and Baltic iGEM teams as well as to share innovation and knowledge about iGEM.
Teams got the chance to get to know each other and their projects. They participated in poster sessions where even faculty members came to learn about iGEM. Our presenters, such as Euro-BioImaging, were eager to continue communication after the event.
Mariel Turkia, iGEM Ambassador to Europe
“Organizing such an event was a great opportunity to learn about management, coordination, and planning. On top of this, I had a lot of fun because I was fortunate to have such a wonderful committee to lead. Everyone did their part amazingly, our communication worked, and we truly worked together. Huge thank you to the committee members Sara Makkonen, Minttu Lepistö, Ville Koponen, Elsa Lehtilä, Ofelia Sarlund and Jesse. We did it! Thank you to every single one in NiC 2024 for making the weekend so wonderful and good luck MilkClear iGEM KU 2024 with NiC 2025!”
